UNDERTOW presents SLEAZE LINE by Victor Castaneda-H
Victor Castaneda-H’s SLEAZE LINE draws from the lurid and electric visual landscape of 1990s queer culture. Sourced from sex phone ads in the back pages of alternative magazines and rave/club flyers of the era, these drawings are paired with Kid Pix, a nostalgic digital drawing tool from the same decade. The result is a playful, charged remix of queer ephemera, reframed through the lens of memory and survival.
The work reflects on a formative era of queer nightlife—one shaped by ecstatic pleasure and devastating loss. In the midst of the AIDS epidemic, when queer sex was stigmatized as dangerous or deadly, SLEAZE LINE reclaims that history with joy and defiance. It is a celebration of queer intimacy and eroticism in an age shadowed by fear.
