UNDERTOW presents:SASHA FUENTES

UNDERTOW is pleased to present two print editions by Sasha Fuentes: Regeneración and Anal Mag.

Sasha Fuentes creates work rooted in queer archivism, working through graphic collage and their personal collection of POC publications and flyers spanning the 1970s–2000s. Their practice moves across risograph zines, posters, and mixtapes, centering both historic and contemporary trans and queer artists. Recurring subjects include trans health, sex work, poetry, and queer life.

Regeneración draws from a range of cultural and political references, bringing together working-class gay Mexican histories, AIDS education, queer iconography, and archival fragments. The work folds together references to Informe-SIDA, a multicultural bilingual activist group in Texas; Regeneración, a multigenerational activist newspaper founded in Mexico; Bay Area lesbian archives; and found visual culture to create a dense field of memory, homage, and transmission.

Anal Mag is a reworked car parts order form from Lowrider magazine layered with scans from gay porn magazines, sex toy catalogs, and invented advertisements of Fuentes’s own design. The only original ad that remains is the fuzzy dice. In this piece, Fuentes brings together their Chicano upbringing in East Los Angeles with their queerness, collapsing vernacular design, desire, humor, and fantasy into a single image.
