The UNDERTOW POSTCARD PROJECT is an exploration of queer print culture through the lens of the postcard—an object imbued with history, intimacy, and the ability to communicate across distances. Each piece in this series is a collage or rephotograph of fragments from queer archives, capturing moments of desire, sex, and loss. The postcard size, small and intimate, mirrors the personal nature of these stories, while the act of cutting, layering, and reassembling reflects how queer histories are often fragmented, yet endlessly resilient.

Print, as a medium, has long borne witness to queer lives—both celebrated and hidden—and this work seeks to examine how it holds memory and desire. The postcard, in its circulation, becomes an active agent of transmission—carrying these histories across boundaries, both physical and emotional. Through its travel and exchange, the postcard acts as a messenger, transmitting queer narratives that might otherwise be lost or silenced. It is a physical and emotional conduit, transmitting not only visual fragments but also the emotions, desires, and struggles of those who have lived them.

These postcards are not just objects of correspondence, but relics of a shared, often erased, experience, offering a glimpse into the erotic, the painful, and the joyous. Through this project, I engage with how print cultures document, preserve, and, at times, obscure the complexities of queer existence. Each card is a gesture of recognition, a way to honor what was and what could have been, all while engaging with the politics of memory, visibility, and identity.
